Samadhi
is the state of complete mental absorption in one object, with the
cessation
of thought and egoic activity...
|
...In
samadhi the mind becomes one with the object of concentration. If
applied
to the Divinity within, samadhi enables one to become absorbed in God
by
direct communion. Other terms for samadhi include: nirvana, gnosis,
trance, ecstasy, and nirodha. Samadhi is the goal of meditation, and
the point and purpose of yogic
activity. In
his commentary on the Yoga-Sutras, the sage Vyasa writes: "Yoga is
samadhi."
In other words, the state of yoga, or union with God, has the technical
name of samadhi.
